EU to Give 17 Million Euros to Promote Vegetables After E. Coli (3)

The European Commission, the European Union’s regulatory arm, approved 17 million euros ($23 million) in aid to promote fresh fruit and vegetables as a measure to help farmers recover from the effects of an E. coli outbreak earlier this year.

The EU will contribute half of the total 34 million euro budget over three years, with the remainder being paid by professional organizations and governments, the Brussels-based commission said in an e-mailed statement today. The plan will provide 14 programs in 11 member countries.
