Teagasc Advisory - Nursery Stock & Ornamentals Newsletter 3, 2022

With fewer selective weed control options it is important to maximise the efficiency of weed control options. Where grasses have not been controlled in the winter clean up Kerb Flo is a useful product with root uptake. Control of some perennial weeds such as Willow Herb and Butter Cup with non-selective contact control agents such as Spotlight.

Non-crop areas should be treated now to prevent weeds from developing and spreading. The use of knockdown hormone-based herbicides (e.g. 2,4 D)and systemic herbicides (e.g. glyphosate) can be highly damaging if drift occurs and should only be used with the greatest caution. Combined suitable residuals will give longer lasting controls if applied in succession.
