“AIB Bank is fully committed in supporting national economic objectives particularly in the context of first time exporters. The purpose of this guide is to provide a level of support and guidance to business owner managers who may be thinking of exporting as a pathway to recovery and growth.” Karl Heffernan, General Manager, AIB Business Banking.

“Export driven Irish companies have a key role in contributing to a sustained recovery and future growth in Ireland. Irish companies are aggressively pursuing new opportunities from Shanghai to San Paulo and Enterprise Ireland is here to help them realise their export ambitions. International sales will create direct employment and impact every town in Ireland.”

Frank Ryan, CEO, Enterprise Ireland.

Ireland is one of the most open economies in the world but it’s a small market, so companies have to export in order to grow. Exporting offers many advantages over attempting to increase domestic sales – such as efficiencies of scale, access to new technologies, new ways of doing business and greater awareness of new trends and developments

There are now thousands of Irish companies – just like yours – successfully selling across the world. They include companies in new and emerging sectors such as software, life sciences and internationally traded services. Companies that are knowledge intensive, market led and technology driven will succeed if the right plans are put in place.

But before you launch into an exporting venture, you need to do serious groundwork to ensure you make the right decisions in taking your product or service overseas. It’s also important to access all the expert advice and support that is available to First Time Exporters.

AIB actively supports national economic objectives with the provision of credit, products, services and advice to our 170,000 business customers nationwide. We also share the ambition of Enterprise Ireland to develop the export sector, recognising the crucial role it will play in economic recovery.

AIB’s specialised export teams are fully committed to supporting existing and potential exporters. We can provide expert advice and solutions based on the individual needs of any exporting company, whatever its size or sector.

This “First Time Exporters’ Guide” is the first in a series of initiatives from AIB that will back up our commitment to our business customers.

The guide sets out clearly the key steps that every first-time exporter needs to take, as well as some of the challenges they are likely to face. You will also find essential information on the agencies and resources that can advise and help first-time exporters. Chief among these is Enterprise Ireland, the Government agency responsible for the development and growth of Irish enterprises in world markets.
