The Walsh Research Fellowship was named in the memory of Dr Tom Walsh, first Head of Agricultural Research and also of Advisory Services and Education in what we now know as Teagasc. Dr Walsh was also a recipient of the RDS Irish Times Boyle Medal for Scientific Excellence in 1970.
Each year 50 Walsh Research Fellowship Bursaries are awarded to doctoral students for designated research projects. The Bursaries are currently worth €21,000 annually for every selected student. These graduates go on to make a vital contribution to the agri-food industry in Ireland and further a field.
The Society grants €10,000 annually, for a period of three years, to part fund a Walsh Research Fellowship Bursary for research in a particular sphere of agriculture relevant to the work of the Society.
