EFSA is to co-host a scientific colloquium on bee health as part of the European Parliament’s Week of Bees and Pollination 2017.

Registration is now open for the event, Collecting and sharing data on bee health: Towards a European Bee Partnership, which will take place in Brussels on 26 June 2017.

Agnes Rortais, co-ordinator of EFSA’s MUST-B project, said: “We are delighted to be taking part in this year’s Bee Week. The colloquium is a great opportunity to gather together scientists and others interested in bee health to debate the key issues and to plot a way forward.

“We hope this will be the beginning of a true EU-wide partnership that will help to halt the weakening and decline of honeybee colonies.”

The colloquium will bring together a wide range of stakeholders, including beekeepers, farmers, industry associations, scientists, risk assessors and managers, and policy makers. The main aims are to:

  • explore the mutual benefits of sharing data for all stakeholders;
  • improve and standardize the collection and sharing of data on bee health;
  • strengthen collaboration between all interested parties and establish an EU Bee Partnership.

Collecting and sharing data on bee health: Towards a European Bee Partnership is being organized jointly with COPA-COGECA, the European Professional Beekeepers Association (EPBA), Bee Life and the European Crop Protection Association (ECPA).
