CAFRE will be holding open days for anyone curious about a career in food or horticulture. If you are considering a career in the food industry then come to the open day at Loughry College. Loughry offers courses in Food, Nutrition and Health, Food Technology, Food Management and Marketing, Food Design and Nutrition and Communication.
Courses are available at all levels from National Diploma, suitable for students with GCSE’s to Degree and Masters Degree, on a full and part-time basis.
Peter Simpson, National Diploma Course Manger, stated: “Food is constantly in the news for all the right reasons– it is our largest manufacturing industry. The Northern Ireland food industry is a vibrant, progressive sector that has been ‘recession resistant’ when many other sectors have been in decline. For the food sector to continue its growth it needs creative, motivated and talented graduates who can deliver success. Loughry students are in demand, largely due to the practical nature of our courses and the fact they are taught in world class facilities – right on your doorstep.”
If you want to find out why CAFRE graduates have high employment success, securing great jobs in the food industry then come along to the open day on and you too could spring into a successful career in the food industry.
If you are interested in science but don’t want a job stuck behind a desk all day, come along to CAFRE’s Open Event at Greenmount Campus and see how you can grow a career in Horticulture.
If you have a minimum of four GCSEs at Grade C or above (including English and Mathematics) and a genuine interest in horticulture, you could be offered a place on Greenmount’s Level 3 Extended Diploma programme. This two year course, which includes an industry placement in a sector of your choice, provides a thorough grounding in many aspects of amenity horticulture.
As a horticulture student at Greenmount you’ll have the opportunity to develop plant identification and propagation skills, learn how to keep golf courses and sports pitches in peak condition and design and build great gardens. The College has experienced staff and fantastic facilities, including reasonably priced residential accommodation, to help you work your way to a career you’ll love.
On completion of the programme you may become employed with a landscape contractor, garden centre, local council, golf club, nursery or environmental organisation.
However, as the Level 3 Extended Diploma qualification is deemed by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority as equivalent to 3 A Levels at Grade C or above, many of our graduates move on to study for the Foundation Degree in Horticulture at Greenmount. For those who want to learn while they earn, CAFRE also offers the option to continue to study, on a day release basis, for the Certificate in Higher Education in Horticulture.
