Benmore Furniture makes furniture from salvaged scaffolding boards. Not only is the upcycling of pre used scaffold boards environmentally friendly, but it is the ideal material for both exterior and interior furniture:
The timber is slow grown and close grained for extra strength, essential in its previous existence to carry heavy construction loads
It has been pressure treated to preserve it against the elements to allow years of outdoor use in all seasons on construction sites.
Years of exposure to the elements has seasoned the timber by flushing out the sap, thus leaving it extremely stable and not prone to shrinkage.
Each piece of timber has a character of its own, ground in cement creates silvering, old nail and screw holes are characterised by rust stains and mishaps such as oil and paint spills have added patches of subtle colouration. All this combined with varying grain patterns and years of weathering produces a uniqueness not seen in standard furniture.
All of the furniture is handmade and built to last; it’s rugged construction will stand up to the best that the Irish weather can throw at it. The planks which have been meticulously selected and stripped of embedded screws and nails have all been pressure treated in their past life, with an additional oil finish applied to preserve further and bring out the grain.
