We are coming live from Bloom 2012 over the next few days. You can see all the categories of show gardens in the list of articles below along with all the best at show and medal winners. Rain has not stopped play on the first day and there is a fine outlook for the 4 days ahead so there will be an expectation that crowds may meet the 2011 numbers of 90,000. In response to those numbers last year, the show organisers have put a bigger emphasis on ease of movement through the gardens and exhibits for visitors this year.
It has been by some accounts a difficult year, for many of the designers to source suitable sponsors with deep enough pockets so each and every garden is really a credit to them all. We visited on Tuesday and never cease to be amazed at how what still looks like a building site manages to turn into a sea of calm for opening day. Its hard to imagine when you walk around, that over 5 years ago Bloom did not exist and that there was no substantial national garden exhibition for the multitude of design talent that existed in Ireland. The first 5 years of the best gardens are now available in a new book called ‘Bloom’ Inspiring Gardens compiled by Gary Graham and Ciaran Flanagan.
If you think you are too busy to attend then you miss an opportunity to put your finger on the pulse of all that is ornamental and edible horticulture in Ireland. It is a public focused show of course but there is much networking, researching and dealing being done by the trade too. Congratulations to all the winners and to the Bloom team for what promises to be another vibrant show for 2012.
