Growise from Bord na Móna has teamed up with Agri Aware’s Incredible Edibles to put a spring in the step of Ireland’s primary school children.
Launched at the beginning of March, Incredible Edibles sees schools around the country busy growing carrots, lettuce, potatoes, strawberries and turnips. Schools are supplied with raised beds and grow packs, everything they’ll need to grow a veritable feast of healthy foods!
Included in these packs is Growise Multipurpose Compost, just one of the vast range of Grow Your Own products from Bord na Móna. Participating schools are also equipped with a logbook for tasks, lesson plans and fun activities. Each student also receives a healthy eating diary to keep themselves.
This year, the pupils and their parents are also being asked to look out for the Incredible Edibles characters, or the Bord Bia Quality Mark, which will be featured on the packaging of selected Irish-produced potatoes, fruits and other vegetables. The five schools who collect the most of these tokens will then be rewarded with either a class visit to Bloom 2012, or a school visit by Agri Aware’s mobile farm.
“With the Summer months fast approaching, gardening is a fantastic hobby for parents and children alike, getting them outside in the fresh air and giving them quality time together. Bord na Móna is delighted to be involved in this exciting initiative. The Incredible Edibles campaign will bring growing into the classroom and introduce youn minds to the joys and benefits of growing your own fruit and vegetables,” commented June Downling of Bord na Móna.
