The National Garden Gift Card, from the HTA, won the best Garden Clothing and Gifts category at the GIMA Awards which took place at Celtic Manor in Wales on 13 July.

The National Garden Gift Card allows HTA member garden retailers to both sell and redeem instore. The card drives increased footfall to garden centers and increase basket value, as recipients and purchasers often spend more instore than the face value of the gift card.

Its many benefits include:

  • Improved cash flow – retailers only pay when they sell or accept payment with a card
  • Making it easier for members to get enough stock in advance of the main gifting occasions like Mothers’ Day and Christmas when cash flow tends to be low
  • Less administration and postage costs for garden centers compared with paper vouchers as no requirement to send back accepted vouchers for payment
  • Easier to merchandise instore with very attractive designs and display stands and as cards have no value until activated at the till they can be displayed anywhere instore.

Commenting on the Award Martin Simmons, HTA Director of Operations said, “We are delighted that the National Garden Gift Card has been recognized in this way with this award in this hotly contested category. It’s one of many improvements we’re making to our gifting schemes ensure they work as hard as possible for the industry.  With retailer support the gift card will thrive, driving customers to garden centre stores and adding value to the garden industry for retailers, growers and manufacturers alike.”
