Teagasc’s John Mulhern tells HC, “We are very aware of labour shortages in the industry, and through the apprenticeship model we hope to provide a platform for a new generation of horticultural employees to work and learn simultaneously. We are constantly adapting our education offerings via Kildalton and the Botanic Gardens and are here to listen to both employers and potential students about their needs.”
Among other topics in the Learning Theatre, Teagasc will have talks on apprenticeships and update the audience on progress to date. Work has been ongoing with the industry to get two apprenticeship models on track, with a target delivery date of September 2019 still on the cards.
