DARD Horticulture Forum on Goods Vehicle Licensing Information

The Horticulture Forum for Northern Ireland invites you to an Information Evening on the implications of the new Goods Vehicles (Licensing of operators) Regulations 2012 for agricultural and horticultural businesses.

Mr Donald Armstrong, Head of the Transport Regulation Unit, DOE, will provide an update on what you need to do to ensure you comply with the new legislation.

The Goods Vehicle (Licensing of Operators) Regulations will come into effect from July 2012. This legislation is new to Northern Ireland but has been in place in GB for about 40 years. The NI Assembly has decided to introduce this legislation in order to improve road safety, encourage fairness in competition, improve environmental aspects of operating centres and contribute to a reduction in organised crime.

Currently carriers of goods for hire or reward must hold operators licences. From 1st July 2012 the scheme will be extended and everyone who uses goods vehicles over 3.5 tonnes to carry goods as part of their trade or business will be required to hold a Goods Vehicle Operator’s Licence.

This new legislation will have implications for the vast majority of agricultural and horticultural businesses. The information evening will provide you with an opportunity to find out more about how the Goods Vehicle (Licensing of Operators) Regulations will impact on your business and what you will need to do to make sure you adhere to the legislation.
