Charles Shi of Royal Botanical Gardens, Kew has been announced as this years recipient of the title Young Horticulturist of the Year.
Charles, the South East of UK candidate, is a Botanical Horticulturist in the Arboretum at RBG Kew, looking after the Rhododendron Dell. With a keen interest in the application of plants in science, Charles hopes to study this further in the future. Charles apprenticed at Waterperry Gardens, before studying for the Kew diploma in horticulture.
In addition to the the prestigious title of “Young Horticulturist of the Year”, Charles will receive a £2,500 travel bursary from The Percy Thrower Trust, generously provided by the Shropshire Horticultural Society. With this, he can undertake a trip, anywhere in the world, to study a subject related to his chosen field of horticulture.
