Dublin City Council is delighted to announce that the Talbot St Public Realm Improvements Scheme was officially launched by the Lord Mayor of Dublin Emma Blain last night.
Under the direction of Dublin City Council’s City Co-Ordination Office, a number of departments in the Council and other external stakeholders have been working together in recent months towards a shared aim of rejuvenating the area.
With that in mind, various initiatives have taken place including:
•An improvement to paths and road surfaces to help smooth the flow of traffic and make the area more accessible for pedestrians and cyclists
•Upgrading of existing public street lighting to ensure better visibility and safety, especially at night
•The introduction of feature lighting on Talbot St bridge and Festoon Lighting in the area to give the street a more welcoming look and feel
•New bespoke green spaces to soften the urban landscape and make the street more welcoming and environmentally friendly
•The introduction of pop-up uses for vacant or underused buildings, which could include temporary shops and artistic spaces
•Improvements to shopfronts and design elements to give the area a more cohesive and attractive visual identity
Catherine Brophy Walsh from the City Co-Ordination Office said, “This project is a great example of how coming together as a team of various stakeholders and working as a group can help achieve our common goal. I think we can all agree that the various initiatives we have undertaken really have improved Talbot St and made it a more welcoming part of the city. I’m looking forward to seeing some of the ideas for the pop-up uses in some of the vacant or underused buildings in the area.”
The improvements in Talbot Street and its surrounding areas are part of ongoing efforts to both protect and enhance this historic part of our city-centre.
Under the direction of its City Co-Ordination Office, Dublin City Council intends to continue ‘Taking it Street by Street’ and examining what improvements could be made to other streets in the City Centre
