Teagasc Webinar: Carbon footprints and sustainability in horticulture enterprises

The Teagasc Horticulture Development Department will host a webinar on Carbon Footprints and Sustainability in Horticulture Enterprises. This webinar will take place from 15:00-16:10 on Thursday March 31st 2022.

The event will be facilitated by Dr Lael Walsh a horticulture sustainability researcher in Teagasc supported by Eoin Sweetman and Andy Whelton. Dr Walsh will give an overview of the projects and the research underway in the horticulture sustainability programme within Teagasc. This will be followed by two presentations from sustainability experts.

1. Dr David Bek will present on ‘Meeting the Sustainability Challenge in Ornamental Horticulture’

Bio: Dr David Bek is Associate Professor of Sustainable Economies at Coventry University (UK), where he co-leads the Sustainable Production and Consumption Research Cluster. David has extensive experience undertaking research into sustainability within horticultural supply chains. He co-leads the University’s Sustainable Cut-flowers Project which works with a number of the sector’s stakeholders to drive forward improvements in practices within cut-flower supply chains.

2. Islam Abdel-Aziz will deliver a presentation on ‘Carbon accounting in horticulture & opportunities for mitigation’

Bio: Islam Abdel-Aziz is a Horticulture Consultant at ADAS, with a focus on resource use across the supply chain; from primary production to national and international supply. Islam delivers consultancy and advisory services to growers, NGOs, government agencies and food and drink businesses, amongst others; with significant focus on innovation projects, developing efficient and sustainable resource utilisation.
