The Pink Lady Balcony – Bord Bia Bloom – Small Show Garden Cornelia Raftery

Designer Cornelia Raftery

About the garden – Small garden
The Pink Lady Balcony is a sustainable, bee-friendly balcony garden that highlights the important role that pollinating insects play in the production of fruiting trees and plants.

It features two multi-stemmed Crataegus persimilis ‘Prunifolia Splendens’ trees – a variety of Hawthorn that provides spring blossom and autumn colour. The underplanting is pollinator-friendly with a palette of pale pink and white flowers accented with brighter pinks to represent Pink Lady apples.

Rough timbers reimagine apple boxes as planters, log piles provide homes for pollinators, and the sedum trim supports biodiversity and provides sustainable drainage. This is an educational and impactful space that offers viewers the opportunity to connect with nature and learn about the importance of bees.
