About the garden – Concept garden
Precious things are wrapped in gold and this garden provides a precious habitat for wildlife, wrapped in an artfully designed golden wall. The garden reflects Kerrygold’s natural positioning as a producer of high quality, healthy, natural food. The golden flecked boundary wall, with its verdant green undulating strip inspired by the rolling pastures of the Golden Vale, evokes Kerrygold’s roots and connection to Irish farming.
Wildlife will find shelter, food, water, and nesting materials. The habitat tower invites birds, bees, butterflies, moths, and bats to inhabit the garden. Drifts of pollinator-friendly native and non-native perennials and grasses in shades of yellow, white and blue are punctuated by Irish native trees and shrubs. The water feature and the habitat-rich groundscape provide ideas for the visitor on how to attract wildlife into their gardens. In the gathering space at its heart, guests can relax and savour what’s good in life.
About the Designer
Ailish Drake and Conor Hourigan are Directors of Drake Hourigan Architects, an award-winning architecture and landscape design practice. Working with clients in the public and community sectors, it brings an innovative approach to creative and adaptive reuse of historic structures, contemporary architecture, and landscape design.
Ailish is an architect and landscape designer whose design work extends outside to include landscape, public parks, and sensory gardens. Conor is a Grade II Conservation architect and places conservation work and built heritage at the heart of the design practice. This is Drake Hourigan Architects’ third Bloom show garden.
