Mount Congreve Gardens is one of the very best places in the world for visitors to enjoy Magnolias, featuring three spectacular plantings of 200 magnolias in the garden: the varieties of Magnolia campbellii, Magnolia veitchii and Magnolia sprengeri var diva among others, are all now mature and impressive trees creating a canopy walkway of 2 kilometres and delivering a breathtaking display of colour and fragrance each spring. The gardens, originally curated under the vision of Mr. Ambrose Congreve and his co-creator Mr. Herman Dool, have long been recognised as the finest location to witness magnolias in full bloom.

Helen McAlinden’s visit to Mount Congreve Gardens in the early spring 2024 proved transformative. Walking among the magnificent magnolia trees in full bloom, she found inspiration in the garden’s rich botanical history. “The sight of the different varieties of magnolias in magnificent bloom was genuinely awe-inspiring,” McAlinden recalls. “It sparked an idea to delve into the archives and find old botanical drawings of magnolias as a tribute to this new and exciting collaboration with Mount Congreve.”
The majestic Magnolias in bloom can be enjoyed at Mount Congreve Gardens, which is now open every day and children can enjoy access free of charge. The gardens at Mount Congreve are located just 10 minutes from Waterford City and open from 9 am to 5 pm at the Cafe, with the Gardens and Foxford Shop open from 10 am to 5 pm and the Greenway Gate open from 10 am to 3 pm daily.
