Horticulture Connected feature tenders for jobs in Ireland’s public sector suitable for candidates from the horticulture industry.
This tender comes from the University College Dublin (UCD) Procurement Office, whose Transformation to Continuous Cover Forestry: Synergies and Trade-offs (ContinuFOR) is a project that is being funded by the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine.
This project will:
• identify suitable approaches to transforming forests that are managed using the clearfell silvicultural system to continuous cover forestry (CCF).
• determine the consequences of CCF transformation for timber production (quality and quantity), biodiversity, resilience, and carbon sequestration.
• estimate the forest area in Ireland that is suitable for transformation to CCF and the drivers and barriers to CCF adoption.
• evaluate and calibrate existing growth models for use in modelling growth in CCF stands.
The project team comprises two academics and one post-doc from UCD Forestry (project lead), one academic and one post-doc from Teagasc and one academic and one PhD student from Maynooth University. Please refer to Appendix A for a summary of the project plan.
