Almost 500 companies from 36 countries presented their products and services in such areas as plant breeding, cultivation technology and greenhouse technology.

The trade show received a total of 15.000 visitors, and the number of foreigners among them was greater than ever. It was not surprising, then, that many exhibitors indicated how pleased they were the quality of these visitors. According to many exhibitors, “The Horti Fair is the centre of greenhouse horticulture all week long.”

Reactions to the planned move to Aalsmeer have been predominantly positive as well, according to Willem Luuk Nijdam, Director of the Horti Fair. On Tuesday, the Horti Fair and the FloraHolland Trade Fair announced that both of their events would start taking place at a single location in 2013 while still retaining their own identities. More details of this joining of forces will be announced in due time. Next year, this combined trade show will take place during the first full week of November.

The Horti Fair is the trade show that presents the most new products and services. To back this up, the trade show presents the annual Innovation Award for the best new product or service. This year, the jury selected Air Monitoring (for monitoring the quality of greenhouse air) entered by Sercom and EMS as the winner. The Press Award (with entries being judged by a jury of international trade journalists) went to the Next Generation Semi-Closed Greenhouse submitted by a consortium under the auspices of AVAG.

Among the other high points was the Flower Catwalk: a fashion show featuring dresses made entirely of flowers and plants and created by Israeli floral designer Shlomi Ilani. The HortiSeminars were also a success this year: these small-scaled seminars about current horticultural topics were held on a daily basis. It is interesting to note that so many foreign trade show visitors took part in this programme.
