I have been working for the Environmental Education Unit of An Taisce for over 6 years. I started out as an Education Officer on the pilot project of the travel theme and was made National Manager of the Travel theme in 2008.
I have been working for the Environmental Education Unit of An Taisce for over 6 years. I started out as an Education Officer on the pilot project of the travel theme and was made National Manager of the Travel theme in 2008. Since then we have rolled out the theme nationwide and have over 26 people working on the programme. It is a diverse and interesting role which involves working at a strategic level to promote sustainable travel to school, however the best part of the job is seeing how creative schools are when it comes to promoting walking & cycling – the schools are fantastic and as a result the travel theme is a huge success.
Before I worked for An Taisce I studied Geography & Sociology (BA Hons) in Trinity College as well as Sustainable Development (MSc) in D.I.T., Bolton Street. I have previously worked as a Town Planner, Sustainable Development Consultant and Environmental Consultant. Prior to settling down in Dublin I lived and worked in Australia and New Zealand where I worked for the Department of Conservation. I love the outdoors and travelling is a passion which I can’t seem to shake off, however my twin daughters now take up most of my time but I’m already teaching them about Green-Schools and they are great at recycling & now are demanding bikes for their birthday. It’s really never too early to learn about our wonderful environment & how we as individuals & families can protect it & Green-Schools is a great place to start.
