Well-Known Enniscorthy fruit grower and Strawberry Festival chairman Cyril Wheelock has had plans to improve his business torpedoed by Wexford County Council on road safety grounds. The Finchogue farmer applied to the local authority for permission to extend an agricultural store with a toilet for pickers and to erect Spanish tunnels for growing strawberries under polythene.
The proposal for a site four kilometres west of Enniscorthy at Clohass in Davidstown prompted no objections from members of the public. However, it set alarm bells ringing among the officials as they noted that the location is directly beside the N30 Enniscorthy to Clonroche road.
The roads section of the council felt that it would ‘create a traffic hazard’. The application was returned marked ‘refused’.
There were no such difficulties for Eddie O’grady at Ballincash Lower in Oulart, who was granted planning permission for a 355sq.m extension to a milking parlour.
Also given the green light was James Leech, for a grain store at Ballyhamilton in Ballindaggin, while the way has been cleared too for William Mernagh to build two new houses at Ryland Upper in Bunclody.
