BAAS Plantenservice B.V. implements a track and trace system based on the CC RFID tags.
In January 2011, Container Centralen (CC) implemented RFID tags on all European CC Containers. The primary goal of “Operation Chip-It” is authentication. However, RFID technology also enables speeding up logistics handling of CC Containers whilst reducing errors, whilst simplifying the registration of the CC containers. BAAS Plantenservice immediately saw the opportunities, and is now first to realise these advantages.
BAAS’s suppliers apply a barcode label with the BAAS order number to each CC Container, that is linked to the CC RFID tag by scanning both with a ScanGreen RFID handheld. This information is sent to BAAS and its transport companies via the ScanGreen RFID Platform, who use it to optimise the inbound transport. When the CC is loaded, the driver also scans the tag, which is also sent to BAAS, who then knows exactly when the goods will arrive. Upon arrival, BAAS only needs to scan the RFID tags after which the goods are booked in automatically. During each RFID scan, the CC is automatically authenticated and registered, allowing seamless administration of the CC Containers.
Ad van de Wijdeven, Managing Director: “We immediately saw the opportunities to further speed up and improve our logistics. Especially in peak periods, when we process about 14,000 CCs a day, things can easily go wrong, and that requires a lot of communication between suppliers, transporters and our logistical and financial departments. All of this is no longer necessary, because we can see the status of each delivery at a glance. Our suppliers and transporters have the same information. And it all happens automatically!”
Participating in the pilot are: Kwekerij Wouters, Gebroeders Van der Salm, Leo Ammerlaan, and Hacol. By the end of 2011, more growers and transporters will participate and the functionality will be expanded with for example quality control.
Mieloo & Alexander B.V. extended the ScanGreen Application Suite for the NordicID handhelds and provides the ScanGreen RFID Supply Chain Platform for the data exchange between growers, hauliers and BAAS. Qurius B.V. enhanced the Navison system of BAAS. All systems are based on international standards, so that other supply chains can easily adopt them.
