Improved consumer buying sentiment means more sales opportunities for the industry. Help your business capitalise on this improved sentiment by attending GLAS 2019.

Proudly supported by Bord Bia, Ireland’s premier horticulture trade show – the Garden Landscape and Amenity Sportsturf (GLAS) trade show – is an invaluable one-day opportunity for professionals in horticulture, sportsturf, and related industries.

A visit to GLAS is essential for seeking innovative solutions and cost-saving ideas – to discover products, services, and concepts that will help both you and your organisation.

GLAS 2019 will offer attendees the chance to inspect the latest machinery hitting the Irish market in the Sportsturf Village and Machinery Park; attendees will also be on-hand to witness the crowning of the Best New Product and Best New Plant, at the New Product New Plant Awards; retailers will have the opportunity to see the latest trends in Point-Of-Sale (POS) and Point-Of-Purchase (POP) merchandising at the SEL Retail Merchandising Showcase; pursuers of information and education will not have to look far as a host of industry leaders will present in-depth lectures and presentations at the expanded Learning Theatres, sponsored by Bord Bia and Teagasc; and of course the Bord Bia Thinking House will be on hand to provide the trade with the latest publications and advice for the horticulture trade.

GLAS 2019 will feature the brand new Careers Hub, where attendees and exhibitors will meet their customers and even their potential employees of tomorrow. The Careers Hub provides for an informal networking opportunity for visitors and exhibitors to meet with final year students, graduates, and alumni. The focus will also be on the value of up-skilling those currently working in the industry.

Also new for GLAS in 2019 is The Landscape Show: a show-within-a-show that brings together all of the expertise from the landscaping sector – supported by the Association of Landscape Contractors of Ireland (ALCI), the Irish Landscape Institute (ILI), and the Garden and Landscape Designers Association (GLDA), who will also be on hand to meet new and existing members. The Landscape Show at GLAS will feature exhibits from the leading suppliers, as well as informative talks in the Learning Theatres.

Consumer sentiment

A recent survey conducted amongst the readers of The Irish Garden magazine highlighted the opportunities for the industry. The survey confirmed improved consumer sentiment for 2019, with 62% of the 1,061 respondents intending to spend more on their garden this year versus last.

When it comes to which part of their garden the respondents plan to spend more money on, plants lead the group with 82%, next was lawn care with 31%, then shed and fencing with 21%, garden furniture with 19%, driveway and paving with 19%, greenhouses with 15%, mowers and machinery with 9%, garden pond with 8%, barbecues with 6%, and play furniture with 3%.

When asked about how much they plan on increasing their garden expenditure by in 2019, 72% of 1,053 respondents said they plan to spend up to 10% more on their garden compared with 2018. The remaining 28% said they plan on increasing their expenditure by 10% or more.

Improved consumer buying sentiment means more sales opportunities for the industry. With over 100 exhibitors already confirmed – including Yellow Furze Nurseries, Dunne & Dineen, Irish Grass Machinery, Fast Grow Fertiliser, Ryalls, Envirico, and Reesink Turfcare – GLAS is an opportunity you cannot afford to miss.
