Peter Donegan to design ‘Northern Roots Oldham Garden’ at RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show 2020.

Having returned from France and the inauguration of the WW1 Centenary Peace garden he designed for the 13th century Chateau de Peronne, garden designer Peter Donegan is set to return to show gardening at the Royal Horticultural Society’s RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show 2020 with the ‘Northern Roots Oldham Garden’.

Showcasing the UK’s largest urban farm and eco-park at the largest garden festival in the world, garden designer Peter Donegan is set to return to show gardening at RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show 2020 with the Northern Roots Oldham Garden sponsored by Park Cakes.

The show garden has been designed to showcase the pioneering new green space project Northern Roots, the UK’s largest urban farm and eco-park on Snipe Clough placed in 160 acres of stunning green space in the heart of Oldham, Greater Manchester.

Paying homage to Oldham’s rich Industrial heritage, the Northern Roots Oldham Garden will incorporate York stone and sandstone salvaged from Oldham’s iconic Grade 2 listed Town Hall and 19th-century mills, whilst the striking roof structure will be constructed by Oldham-based fabricator and entrepreneur Frank Rothwell of Manchester Cabins as the show garden also looks firmly to the future.

After the show, the Northern Roots Oldham Garden will be relocated back to Oldham to form the focal point of the new Northern Roots centre on Snipe Clough.

Irish – London based designer Donegan will once again team up with contractor Burnham LandscapingCED Stone GroupProCook and growers Hortus Loci.

Isabella McGauley, HR Director, Park Cakes:

Sponsoring the Northern Roots Oldham Garden and supporting the Northern Roots project is a brilliant opportunity for us to give back to people in the community’

Northern Roots Project Director Anna da Silva:
‘Something inspirational is happening in Oldham. 160 years after Oldham became the textile epicentre of the Industrial Revolution, another revolution is gathering pace: a Green Revolution. We’re thrilled to be working with Peter on the Northern Roots Oldham Garden, a garden that nods to Oldham’s rich Industrial heritage and diverse communities, whilst celebrating its current renaissance as a centre of green excellence’.

In addition, a number of businesses have pledged their support of the Northern Roots Oldham Garden, including MioCare Group, Manchester Cabins, Walker Simpson Architects and NLTG.
