Flannery’s nurseries enters the UK garden retail market

Long established as one of Ireland’s foremost growers of nursery stock, Flannery’s Nurseries are now looking to develop their market by expanding into the UK. Since the foundation of the nursery by Sean Flannery in 1979, the business has developed in size substantially and now boasts over twenty-five hectares producing a wide and significant range of quality field grown and container plants which are sold to both the retail and landscape markets in Ireland. Famed for their new introduction, Sorbus Autumn Spire, the company now believes the time is right to enter the UK market, believing that there is enormous potential for their range of plant material. Commenting on the UK market, Rose Flannery, daughter of the founder and current owner of the business, said; “we have always had a close association with the UK and over the years I have made many trips to study the market opportunities and have always been impressed with the professionalism of garden retailers and the huge opportunity presented to nurseries such as ours’”.

Bob Haward

To assist them to develop their market in the UK Flannery’s have hired the services of Bob Haward. Well known in the trade from his previous roles at Notcutts Garden Centres, Gibbs Palmer, and Suttons Bob has just established his own agency business, RH Dedicated Sales and says; “this is an exciting opportunity for me and one that blends well with my existing portfolio. I’m really looking forward to growing the market for Flannerys as it seems to me there is an increasing demand for quality trees and shrubs in the UK”.  Commenting on the appointment Rose Flannery says, “we felt that the best way to enter the UK market was to work with a sales agent as typically agents have a great understanding of the retail market. Bob was recommended to us as a highly respected sales professional and are looking forward to working with him over the coming years.”

Haward will begin representing Flannery’s this autumn.
